Books open your mind to what is possible.

The mission of Project Life Mastery is to be a positive example of the unlimited possibilities that life offers for those that are truly committed to mastery. I have been obsessed with learning and growing in all areas of my life since I was 17 years old.

Unfortunately, as Jim Rohn says, “Most people in life major in minor things.” A lot of people know more about celebrity gossip than they do about their mind, body, and spirit. You want to make sure that you are majoring in things that matter.

There are only so many areas of life that truly matter. If you end up neglecting these areas, negative consequences will ensue. Thus, it's worthwhile to feed your mind and invest your time and energy into learning about different aspects of your life.

Did you know that reading strengthens your brain? Using MRI scans, researchers have confirmed that reading involves a complex network of circuits and signals in the brain. As your reading ability matures, those networks also get stronger.

On top of giving your brain a workout, reading is also one of the most effective ways to find solutions to problems. Whatever adversity that you're currently facing in life, there is someone who has been through the same adversity and they've been able to overcome it.

Not only that, but they've shared their wisdom and experience in a book that you can buy for $10-20. You get to benefit from their lifetime of knowledge. How incredible is that? Your behaviors follow your beliefs. If you implement what you learn, your life will change.

It's that simple.

Whenever someone asks me what books they should read I often respond with, “What area of your life are you focused on right now?” The books you read should always be relevant to what you want to move towards or away from. That's why I've broken down 10 categories of life and my best 4-5 recommendations in each category.

Let's dive into 42 life changing books for mastering every area of your life!

NOTE: These links are Amazon links and will direct you to the Amazon.com website when you click on them.

GENERAL SELF-HELP

1. Awaken The Giant Within: How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny, Tony Robbins

I first read this book when I was 21 years old. Tony Robbins has been one of the biggest influences in my life. A lot of what I believe in and who I am is based on his teachings.

The concept of my brand, Project Life Mastery, was inspired by Tony. He coined the term life mastery. That idea resonated with me and I decided to go ahead and build a business around it.

Another book of Tony's that I recommend you read is called Unlimited Power. This book is based on the concept of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) which is a methodology for producing change within yourself.

2. Think And Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill

Some people discredit Napoleon Hill based on certain stories that have emerged about him. Nonetheless, this book is a classic which focuses on the psychology of success. Napoleon draws on stories of millionaires of his generation to illustrate his principles.

There is even a chapter inside of the book that is focused on sexual transmutation, which teaches you how to channel your sexual energy to create success. Desire for success is the strongest of all human desires. Learning how to channel that energy into whatever it is that you want to accomplish is a valuable thing.

3. The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey

Inside his book, Stephen presents a framework for personal effectiveness and success. He argues that change starts from within. Thus, if you want to cultivate success in life you first have to develop your character. He draws upon the 7 habits of highly effective people, which include the following

  • Be Proactive
  • Begin with the End in Mind
  • Put First Things First
  • Think Win-Win
  • Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
  • Synergize
  • Sharpen the Saw

One of my favorite habits is to “seek first to understand, then to be understood.” People are too quick to project their rigid opinions and beliefs onto others. Even if I don't agree, I always strive to always listen and understand others' perspectives.

4. 12 Rules For Life: An Antidote To Chaos, Dr. Jordan Peterson

Dr. Peterson is a well-known Canadian clinical psychologist and University professor. This book is more challenging to read than other self-help books. I suggest that you watch his debates and lectures on social media first.

Doing so will help you understand his position on certain topics before diving into the book. He explains things in such interesting ways that it's difficult to disagree with his viewpoints. His principles are rooted in helping people think differently.

One powerful piece of wisdom that I've learned from him is that you want to reflect upon a belief from multiple viewpoints. The goal is to have an open mind and be flexible to determine the highest form of truth.

MINDSET

1. Grit: The Power of Passion And Perseverance, Angela Duckworth

Inside her book, Angela highlights something called the Hard Thing Rule. She talks about the importance of doing one hard thing every day which helps to build grit. You don't grow and become more by staying comfortable.

You get stronger by stepping outside of your comfort zone every day and doing things that make you uncomfortable. When you wake up every morning ask yourself, “What can I do today to challenge myself?”

My one thing is taking a cold shower every day. Your's can be whatever you want, as long as it is uncomfortable for you.

2. Relentless: From Good To Great To Unstoppable, Tim Grover

Tim was the trainer for famous athletes like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Dwayne Wade.

In this book, he talks about the mindsets of athletes and how they differ from the average person. On top of that, he reveals what it takes to achieve the kind of relentless discipline and success that famous athletes have.

3. Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind And Defy The Odds, David Goggins

David is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL, cyclist triathlete, and runner. Anything extreme, he's done it. This book is the story of his life. Although he came from a dysfunctional beginning, he still went on to achieve great things in life.

It's inspirational to read how he was able to turn his life around. If you are someone who struggles with procrastination or laziness, this book will show you how you can master your mind and do the impossible.

4. Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success, Carol Dweck

Inside her book, Carol breaks down the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset.

People with a fixed mindset don't believe that it's possible to change. Conversely, people with a growth mindset believe that abilities can be developed through hard work. She talks about how people can put a growth mindset into action to accomplish great things in life.

HEALTH

1. How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease, Michael Gregor

This book is promoting a vegetarian diet. What I love about this book is that every chapter is focused on a specific disease.

More importantly, the knowledge is backed by science.

A lot of diseases are preventable if you change your lifestyle and eating habits. I've considered buying this book as a gift to people because the information is so valuable.

2. Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill: The Complete Guide to Fats, Oils, Cholesterol, and Human Health, Dr. Udo Erasmus

Many years ago I interviewed Dr. Udo Erasmus on my YouTube channel. Dr. Udo is the world's expert in essential fatty acids. He is the creator of Udos Oils and the co-founder of the Udo's Choice supplement brand.

In this book, he talks about the science of fatty acids and sheds light on the manufacturing processes that turn healing fats into toxic fats.

3. The Reboot with Joe Juice Diet: Lose Weight, Get Healthy and Feel Amazing, Joe Cross

I came across this book after watching Joe Cross's documentary, Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. In his documentary, he talks about how he did a 90-day juice cleanse, transformed his body, and healed the symptoms of his autoimmune disorder.

Not only that, but he inspired many others to do the same. This book is a practical guide on how to do a juice fast and reboot your body. I was so inspired after reading it that I ended up doing a 14-day green juice fast.

4. Your Body's Many Cries for Water, Dr. F. Batmanghelidj

This book shares clinical and scientific research that highlights the importance of water. At one point in his life, Dr. Batmanghelidj worked in an Iranian prison. While there, he was able to treat and cure the ailments of prisoners through water therapy.

In the book, Dr. Batmanghelidj talks about how many diseases are caused by dehydration. Thus, it's so important that you keep hydrated, especially if you feel fatigued or struggle with brain fog.

MENTAL HEALTH/ADDICTION

1. Man's Search For Meaning, Dr. Victor Frankl

Victor Frankl was an Austrian psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor who lived in Auschwitz. In his book, he talks about being an inmate of a concentration camp and how his experiences shaped his understanding of meaning.

While he was in Auschwitz, he became fascinated with studying how people were able to find empowering meanings from horrific circumstances. In particular, why some people make it through suffering while others do not.

He went on to popularize the theory of Logotherapy, which is designed to help people find meaning in their lives. In the words of Victor Frankl, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s way.”

2. Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence, Dr. Anna Lembke

Dr. Lembke was recently a guest speaker on the Joe Rogan podcast where she talked about mental health and addiction. After listening to the episode I was inspired to read her book. Her book sheds light on the power of dopamine.

For those of you who don't know, dopamine is a neurotransmitter in your brain. When you overstimulate dopamine, you experience a dopamine crash. In her book, she talks about how our lifestyles contribute to a lot of mental health issues and advocates that people do a dopamine detox.

3. The Molecule of More: How a Single Chemical in Your Brain Drives Love, Sex, and Creativity – And Will Determine the Fate of the Human Race, Daniel Z. Lieberman & Michael Long

This book changed my life.

At the time, I was addicted to achieving more, which is caused by dopamine. The authors describe how our society has grown from a desire for more dopamine. They also talk about how dopamine deficiencies can lead to mental health issues and addictions.

This book shifted my values in life. Over the last few years, I've been spending less time focused on achievement and more time focusing on the here and now. As a result, I've been able to rebalance the molecules in my brain and feel happier and more fulfilled.

4. Recovery: Freedom from Our Addictions, Russell Brand

For those of you who don't know, Russell Brand is a famous comedian and actor. He has publically expressed his struggles with addictions to drugs, alcohol, sex, and pornography. In his book, he shares his story of addiction and introduces the 12 steps that are used in Alcoholic Anonymous.

More importantly, he offers advice and wisdom from his experiences as an addict. Through his writing, he encourages people to identify the pain that their addictions are masking.

5. Your Brain on Porn: Internet Pornography and the Emerging Science of Addiction, Gary Wilson

When I was a teenager I was addicted to pornography. I never thought there was anything wrong with it. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of how it was affecting my brain.

This book shed light on that. It talks about how pornography overstimulates dopamine, objectifies the opposite sex, and inevitably ruins relationships.

RELATIONSHIPS

1. The Five Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, Dr. Gary Chapman

In his book, Gary Chapman shares that there are 5 Love Languages or 5 ways that we can communicate love to someone – words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service, physical touch.

If you want to get your needs met in a relationship you must know what your love language is and communicate it to your partner. Equally so, you must know what your partner's love language is.

A lot of people make the mistake of assuming that their partner has the same love language as them. Thus, many of the challenges that couples face stem from not acknowledging one another's needs.

This book has a quiz that helps you determine what your love language is and provides some great advice on how you can show up for your partner's love language.

2. The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work: A Practical Guide from the Country’s Foremost Relationship Expert, John Gottman

Dr. John Gottman is a professor of psychology at the University of Washington. He specializes in studying the habits of married couples. In this book, he shares the behaviors and skills that help couples create healthy and long-lasting relationships.

You don't have to be married to receive value from this book. It's a great guidebook for anyone who wants to embody the qualities that help make a relationship successful.

3. Cupid's Poisoned Arrow: From Habit to Harmony in Sexual Relationships, Marnia Robinson

This book shares a different approach to love-making with your partner. When you have an orgasm, you experience a dopamine crash. It takes two weeks for your brain to normalize and achieve a state of equilibrium.

Having orgasms consistently can negatively impact your relationship. It can make you feel more irritable and less connected to your partner. This book touches on tantric sex and teaches you how to create more passion and intimacy in your relationship.

4. The Way of the Superior Man, David Deida

This book is designed for men, but women can read it as well if they want to understand men on a deeper level. In his book, David Deida touches on a lot of important issues that men face.

This work has helped build the men's group movement. Each chapter of this book is filled with so many pieces of wisdom that offer practical tips on how men can live more authentically.

FINANCES

1. Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!, Robert Kiyosaki

In this book, Robert Kiyosaki shares a story about his Rich Dad and his Poor Dad. His Poor Dad, who was his biological father, had a belief system that was similar to the rest of society – go to school, get a good education, work until you're 65 years old, and then retire.

4. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind: Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth, T. Harv Eker

This book talks about the inner game of wealth and helps you understand what your money blueprint is. Harv believes that each of us possesses an internal money script that determines how we relate to money.

2. The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich, Tim Ferriss

This book shifted my entire perspective on work and business. Tim Ferriss' book taught me that it is possible to escape the rat race and create life on my terms. I learned that I didn't have to work 40 hours a week and postpone living until I retired at the age of 65.

Instead, I could systematize, automate, and outsource my business so that I could live large NOW and create financial freedom. This book taught me that I have the power to create the life of my wildest dreams, which is what I have gone on to accomplish.

Donald gives strategies for how to communicate your story effectively so that you can attract people and build a raving fan culture.

SPIRITUALITY

1. A New Earth: Awakening Your Life's Purpose, Eckhart Tolle

This is one of the most life-changing books I've ever read.

In this book, Eckhart talks about the importance of living in the present moment. He guides you through a process of how you can awaken to a new state of consciousness, one that will bring you lasting fulfillment and happiness.

2. The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself, Michael Singer

Michael Singer was a very successful entrepreneur, multi-millionaire, and CEO of a billion-dollar public company. After experiencing a spiritual awakening, he stepped away from all of his success to pursue a spiritual practice.

In his book, he teaches people how to surrender and let go so that they can remove the negative blocks that reside inside of them. He has a great course that I recommend called Living From A Place of Surrender.

3. Power vs. Force: The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior, David R. Hawkins

In his book, David Hawkins talks about the connection between consciousness and human behavior. He introduces what he calls “the map of consciousness.” Every human being can measure their consciousness on a scale from 1 to 1,000.

Anything between 700-1,000 is considered to be enlightenment. Less than 200 is considered to be “force” which is equated with suffering. When you raise your consciousness beyond 200, you set yourself on the path to experiencing fulfillment in life. I've noticed that my consciousness has expanded just from reading this book, before putting anything into practice.

4. Letting Go: The Pathway of Surrender, David R. Hawkins

In this book, David talks about how to free yourself from negativity and let go of the inner blocks that are preventing you from experiencing happiness, joy, success, and ultimately, enlightenment.

More importantly, it will help you connect to the peaceful warrior inside of you, reminding you that everything in life is unfolding exactly as it should.

CHRISTIANITY

1. The Bible

Being a Christian is a huge part of my identity and my life. My relationship with God is the most important relationship that I have. It is the foundation for everything that I do and experience in life.

There is so much wisdom in the Bible. If you're a Christian, it's the ultimate source of authority that is worth prioritizing. I do a Bible study ritual a few days a week which helps me stay connected to my faith.

2. The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? Rick Warren

This book helps you identify your purpose in life and how you can start living with a sense of purpose. Once you know God's plan for you, you can start focusing your energy on what matters most for you.

3. The Case for Christ: A Journalist's Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus, Lee Strobel

I originally watched the movie The Case for Christ, which poses a compelling case for the historicity of Jesus’ resurrection. If you want to go deeper with this topic, I recommend reading Lee Strobel's book.

Lee was a former Atheist whose wife decided to convert to Christianity. As a journalist, he was concerned so he sought to prove why God did not exist. Through his research, the evidence provided otherwise. Inevitably, this knowledge led him to convert to Christianity as well.

4. Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence, Sarah Young

This is a book that you read daily. Each chapter is a passage and a prayer that helps you connect to the words of God.

If you're a Christian and you have the desire to strengthen your faith, this book is a must-read.

Why should you meditate?

The global pandemic caused by COVID-19 has changed our lives forever. Isolation, job insecurity, and fear of the future have impacted people's mental health. During these uncertain times, meditation is a powerful mindfulness-based practice for finding calm amidst the chaos.

On a daily basis, the majority of your thoughts are focused on the past or the future. In this emotional state, it's easy to become a victim of your mind. Meditation shifts your focus away from these places and brings you back to the present moment.

If you've never meditated before, figuring out how to start can be overwhelming. For many years I was resistant to meditating.

Why?

I didn't understand how the process of meditation worked.

Intellectually I knew that meditating was good for me, but I couldn't connect with it. I decided to change my perspective. Instead of getting frustrated, I decided to get curious about meditation. I forced myself to meditate every day over an extended period.

Not surprisingly, I started noticing the profound benefits that meditation was having on my mental and emotional health. At that point, there was no turning back. I was hooked.

Some of the mental health benefits of meditation include better focus, improved self-esteem, and lower levels of stress and anxiety.

As an entrepreneur and overachiever, my mind is constantly moving.

I have a lot of responsibilities in my business, which can create anxiety. Meditation has helped me relax my mind, while still being productive. It's also given me more clarity and less brain fog while doing things like reading, learning, listening, and speaking to someone.

Why Is It Hard To Meditate?

The reason why a lot of people resist meditation is that they are addicted to thinking. Your brain doesn't know how to slow itself down. Did you know that from the moment you are born, you process anywhere between 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts a day?

If ruminative thinking is familiar to you, calming your mind and sitting in silence will be incredibly challenging. When you're first starting to meditate it's natural to experience boredom.

Meditation challenges you to practice being in the here and now instead of trying to escape or avoid it. I've struggled with a variety of different addictions throughout my life, everything from video games to pornography to binge eating.

The root cause of addiction is an inability to be comfortable with being. Meditation has helped me shift from doing mode into being mode. In being mode, my mind is forced to slow down because it has nowhere to go.

In this state, I have learned how to be fully present, which has given me a heightened sense of awareness. If I have thoughts, feelings, or sensations that arise in my body, I don't feel the need to change or resist them.

Instead, I observe them in a non-judgmental way.

Meditation teaches you to watch your thoughts and feelings come and go instead of getting attached to them.

If you are new to the world of meditation, I suggest you read Meditation For Beginners by Jack Kornfield. Inside his book, he has some great guided meditations. Having someone direct and guide you through the meditation process is extremely helpful when you're first learning to meditate.

When I first started meditating, I used Headspace and Calm. These apps helped motivate me to meditate and stay on track until I had the willpower to meditate on my own.

Meditation Technologies

Muse Meditation Headband

With the Muse headband, you listen to a guided meditation while the headband scans your brainwaves. It will identify when your mind is overly active versus when it's calm. When your mind is active during your meditation, you'll hear birds chirping.

Conversely, when your mind is calm, the birds will stop chirping. At the end of your meditation session, you can identify what your meditation experience was like and track your progress.

The Brain Tap

The Brain Tap uses frequencies of light and sound for brain wave entrainment. You wear a headset over your closed eyes and headphones in your ears while experiencing these frequencies.

Essentially, it's a guided visualization and meditation that helps your brain to experience higher levels of alpha brain waves. The visualization puts you into an incredibly relaxed state of mind.

HeartMath Inner Balance

This is a heart rate sensor that attaches to your ear. It is accompanied by an app that teaches you how to shift your emotional state and create synchronicity between your mind, body, and heart. Not only does this device help reduce your stress, but it also helps bring awareness to your breathing and heart rate throughout the day.

How To Meditate

You want to make sure that you're in a comfortable seated position, whether that's in a chair or sitting cross-legged on the floor. If you choose to sit in a chair, I recommend sitting upright so that your back is fully supported.

There are many different ways that you can meditate, but one of the most common ways is with your eyes closed. Take a deep breath and allow your body to fully relax. Do a scan and bring attention to every part of your body.

I go through this process in the video above!

If you notice any tension, focus on melting into the tension. Doing this body scan will bring you into the present moment. Once you have done this, bring attention to your breath. Don't try to control your breath. Merely watch and observe it.

Through this practice, you'll notice that your mind will start to get busy.

This is your monkey mind in action.

When this happens, it's important that you don't get frustrated and react. Your only goal is to observe your thoughts. As soon as you become aware of what your thought loops are, simply return to your breath.

While you may enjoy 5 seconds to 1 minute of pure awareness, shortly thereafter, more thoughts will arise. Again, you want to observe your thoughts and be with them. When you're meditating, certain emotions will arise as well.

I like to identify where in my body I'm feeling emotions and get curious about them. At times, the feelings will be so strong that I'll have an urge to stop my meditation altogether. However, if I sit with the emotions long enough, eventually they fade away. The same thing happens with physical sensations that arise.

This is how to meditate for beginners.

Meditation teaches you so much about yourself. It brings awareness to how you think, feel, and move throughout your life. If you're a beginner, I recommend meditating for 10 minutes per day.

Research has shown that a lot of the long-term benefits of meditation occur once you're meditating for 20 minutes per day. If you can work your way up to that, fantastic.

A daily meditation practice transformed my life and it can do the same for you. Connect to your breath and go inward. The answers you seek are found in the stillness.

Do you truly know how to love yourself unconditionally?

Love is the greatest force in the Universe. It is what we all yearn for. However, a lot of people find it easier to love others than to love themselves.

Being in a relationship and sharing your life with someone that you love is a beautiful feeling.

However, your relationship with yourself will always be the most important relationship of your life.

In the words of R.H. Sin, “Sometimes your soulmate is yourself. You have to be the love of your life until you discover that kind of love in someone else.”

If you're ready to cultivate a deep appreciation for all aspects of yourself, keep reading…

What did your parents teach you about love?

Your parent(s) and/or caretaker was the first relationship that you ever had. It set the tone for everything that you experienced in life.

Self-love is the greatest gift that parents can give their children. Ultimately, the goal of every parent should be giving children the means to know, learn and experience success and happiness. Self-love is at the root of those traits.

However, when one or both parents do not value self-love or neglect their children in some way, a child learns that love isn't safe. Even worse, a child may create the belief that he or she is not worthy of love.

Lack of parental involvement in childhood can negatively affect a child's self-esteem and create a breeding ground for an unstable self-concept in adulthood. Oftentimes, this is why adults become people-pleasers and spend their lives doing things to gain approval or validation from others.

Recently I was coaching someone who struggles with self-love. They feel as if they aren't worthy or deserving of anything. As a result, they don't feel like they can fully receive love. I want you to take a moment and reflect upon a person in your life that you love unconditionally.

What would you do for that person? Probably anything, right?

Now, I want you to think about how often you show up for yourself in the same way that you show up for this person you love. The best way to truly love yourself is to value the relationship that you have with yourself above all else. Research shows self-acceptance is the key to a happier life, but it’s also the habit many people practice the least.

I believe that everyone should have a self-love ritual that they practice daily.

If you don't love yourself, you won't have any love to give to others. If you don't take the time to fill your cup up, it is impossible to show up for others. This is a recipe for feeling drained and undervalued.

Alternatively, when you fully embrace all aspects of yourself, your relationships with others deepen and are rooted in mutual love, understanding, and respect.

Eckhart Tolle believes that each person has two parts – a human and a being. Thus, we are human beings. Your conditioning, comprised of your personality, beliefs, and values belongs to the human dimension. Your being is your heart and soul; it is consciousness.

In the words of Eckhart, “Human is form. Being is formless. Human and Being are not separate but interwoven.”

It's useful to be able to separate the two. For example, you can feel guilty and have shame around some of your behaviors, but please understand that you are NOT your behavior. Your behavior doesn't define you. If you want to deepen your sense of self-love, I encourage you to start connecting with your being side.

It's all about learning how to be in the present moment with yourself, whether that's meditating, praying, journaling, reciting affirmations, or doing mirror work. If you have never done mirror work, I highly recommend reading Louise Hay's book, Mirror Work: 21 Days To Heal Your Life.

In her book, Louise talks about her Mirror Principle, which holds that our experience of life mirrors our relationship with ourselves; unless we see ourselves as loveable, the world can be a dark and lonely place. When you engage in self-love rituals, over time your self-esteem increases and you live a more joyous and fulfilling life.

This is how to love yourself unconditionally.

You are worthy of love and belonging. You wouldn't exist on this planet if you didn't. Make it a habit to show yourself love every single day. Be in awe of your existence because you are a gift to this world simply by being you.

THIS is the most important habit of your life.

Of all the habits that I've studied and applied in my life, this is the one habit that I put the majority of my attention towards.

Ultimately, the habits that you form determine the person you become. You must develop empowering habits to become your best self.

Ready to discover the one habit that has NOTHING to do with achieving success, but is still the most important habit to finding success? Read this!

Are you nurturing your inner home?

I don't care what your life looks like on the outside. It's not where you live physically that matters. Rather, it's where you live emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I believe that building your inner home of happiness should be your ultimate goal in life.

The problem is that we live in a society that overvalues success and views it as the end all be all. Don't get me wrong… achieving success is great! However, if you're under the illusion that success will lead to happiness and fulfillment you're setting yourself up for massive disappointment.

This is why so many people fall into the trap of chasing success, to the point of becoming a success addict. You can still experience excitement, passion, and joy as you're pursuing success. However, that's just a massive dopamine rush.

To a certain extent, praise stimulates the neurotransmitter dopamine, which is what makes all addictive behaviors addictive. If you choose to sacrifice your happiness for ‘hits' of success, over time you'll feel empty. You have to remember that you're not a human doing. Rather, you're a human being.

If you are constantly doing you are not truly living, which is why you must cultivate mindfulness. What you experience internally is the most important thing to master in life. As humans, we can achieve a state of self-actualization through the fulfillment of basic human needs.

Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs. From the bottom of the hierarchy upwards, the needs are:

  1. Physiological needs (food, water, and shelter)
  2. Safety needs (security)
  3. Love and belonging needs (romantic relationships and friendships)
  4. Esteem needs (self-worth)
  5. Self-actualization needs (achieving your potential)

Everyone is capable of reaching the level of self-actualization. It's the Holy Grail.

However, doing so will require that you put in the effort to meet the other 4 lower-level needs. At this stage in my life, I spend the majority of my time at the level of self-actualization. My top priority is mastering my inner world.

I still have financial goals that I want to attain, but they are not that important to me. There was a time in my life when achieving success and making money was everything to me. I had to be obsessed with achievement to get to where I am today. However, success didn't give me happiness.

I know a lot of people who have all the money in the world, but they're miserable on the inside. In my opinion, that's not living. Tony Robbins said it best – “Success without fulfillment is failure.” The quality of your life is determined by the quality of your emotions.

If you consistently feel disempowering emotions, like anger, sadness, frustration, shame, or guilt, you will never feel fulfilled. This is why I believe that the most important habit of your life is to take the time every day to experience positive emotions. This habit requires that you cultivate a high level of emotional self-awareness.

You have to intentionally tune in to how you feel and how your emotions impact your decisions in life. If you want to be happy you have to wake up every day and consciously choose to live in a beautiful state, regardless of what's going on in your external world.

How To Cultivate The Habit of Experiencing Positive Emotions

I don't care what your life looks like right now. There is always something to be grateful for IF you are willing to direct your focus towards what you love about your life.

Directing your focus is a habit. By default, your mind will always search for the negative.

Your brain isn't designed to make you happy. Rather, it's designed to help you survive. Therefore, it is constantly looking for threats to your survival. While that's helpful for keeping you alive, it's detrimental to your happiness.

The next time that you catch yourself falling into a disempowering state, ask yourself the following questions – “What is this experience teaching me? How can I use this experience to become a better person?” Don't judge your thoughts and emotions. Rather, become an observer of them.

By doing this, you'll start to realize that YOU are not your thoughts. In fact, you'll come to find out that your thoughts were never yours, to begin with. Meditation is a powerful tool for practicing the art of non-attachment. It allows you to connect with the present moment and surrender to what is.

In this state of mind, you will experience an abundance of inner peace and joy. The more that you condition yourself to feel positive emotions, the more that those emotions will become automatic. When you adopt the belief that life is always happening for you, you start to embrace every experience in your life as a gift. This is when you become truly free.

Emotional mastery is the most important habit of your life.

Please don't spend your life chasing success. Your external accomplishments are not an indication of your happiness. Rather, strive for self-actualization. That is where you will find lasting fulfillment.

I'll leave you with these words from Steve Maraboli –“Many people strive for success to find happiness when, in fact, the inverse is true. Strive for happiness and you shall find success.”

I had CRAZY Ayahuasca experiences at the Soltara Healing Center in Costa Rica.

It's fair to say that I had a deeply transformational journey with plant medicine.

Classic psychedelics such as DMT – an active component of Ayahuasca – let us go to places in our psyche or internal landscape that we wouldn’t normally allow ourselves to go.

Inside this blog, I bring awareness to what Ayahuasca is and highlight some of the incredible, life-changing benefits that you can experience with plant medicine.

If you're ready to open your mind and explore the amazing world of Ayahuasca, read this!

Are you ready to heal your mind, body, and spirit using the power of Ayahuasca? CLICK HERE to discover how the Soltara Healing Center can support you through this life-changing experience!

What is Ayahuasca?

Ayahuasca refers to a psychotropic brew made by indigenous Indians of the Amazon jungle from a woody vine (Banisteriopsis caapi, B. inebrians, or B. quitensis) and the leaves of the chakruna plant.

One of the psychedelic substances that is found inside the brew is DMT, which is short for N-dimethyltryptamine. DMT is known as the spirit molecule. Our bodies naturally produce DMT, but not at the levels of what you ingest when you drink Ayahuasca.

Ayahuasca has grown in popularity in the last few years, in large part due to its life-changing benefits. According to research and many personal accounts, the brew may offer relief from depression, PTSD, and addiction due to how the mixture affects the mind and the nervous system.

Ayahuasca is also used with people who are struggling with terminal illnesses, like cancer. There has been evidence to suggest that some people's conditions have greatly improved after experiencing a series of Ayahuasca sessions.

My First Experience with Ayahuasca

When I was 21 years old I tried Ayahuasca for the first time. At this point, I was a few years into my personal development journey. Thus, I was open to trying anything that could enhance the quality of my life.

My friend invited me to take part in an Ayahuasca ceremony. I had no idea what Ayahuasca was. After a quick Google search, I realized that it was a hallucinogen.

I heard about the transformational benefits of Ayahuasca so I was open to trying it. However, I didn't do the ceremony in the most responsible of ways. It was done at someone's house, which is illegal in North America.

As a disclaimer, you should not do Ayahuasca if you are on medication for depression. Similarly, you should stay away from it if you've been diagnosed with serious mental health issues, like schizophrenia or if you struggle with neurological disorders or heart problems.

One thing that I loved about the Soltara Healing Center is that they do a health check before you're accepted to attend the retreat. Also, the doctors on-site screen you to make sure that you are fit to take part in the event when you arrive. They go above and beyond to make everyone feel safe.

Before the ceremony, you are asked to go on an Ayahuasca pre-diet.

The purpose of this is to prepare the physical and mental body to fully integrate the power of plant medicine. This includes no sex, no masturbation, no alcohol, and no caffeine. Also, they encourage you to eat light vegetarian food and low levels of sugar and fat.

The medicine brings all of your suppressed pain and trauma to the surface for you to confront and heal. When all of this comes up, it can be a very intense experience. Part of the healing process is learning how to let go and release your trauma.

One common saying with Ayahuasca is that it doesn't give you what you want. Rather, it gives you what you need.

Everybody has a different experience with Ayahuasca. Furthermore, you can have a different experience every time that you take Ayahuasca. That's what is so unique about this plant medicine.

My Rebirth Experience with Ayahuasca

During my first Ayahuasca experience, a lot of inner demons showed up. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Since then, I have come to learn that the near-death experience feeling that people have in an Ayahuasca ceremony is the death of your ego.

Your ego is trying to preserve your identity, even the darkest of pieces, which may include limitations, fears, traumas, and addictions. With every death, there is a rebirth. That rebirth is a part of the transformation that someone can experience.

While I was moving through this experience, the person next to me was screaming hysterically the entire time, while the person on the other side of me was laughing hysterically. It was intense.

The more that you resist the medicine, the more traumatic it can be. When I was finally able to let go and release, I purged through vomiting in a bucket. This is symbolic of releasing whatever has been holding you back in your life.

There are many other ways that you can purge, whether that's yawning, sweating, crying, screaming, or going to the bathroom. After I let go, I experienced pure bliss. I felt one with everything and everyone. However, after the experience, I didn't know how to integrate and process everything.

It felt as if I had been asleep for my entire life up until I tried Ayahuasca. Metaphorically, the medicine made me wake up and become more conscious.

My Experience with Ayahuasca at Soltara Healing Center

I had already done a lot of spiritual development work leading up to my Ayahuasca experience at Soltara. However, I had the desire to raise my consciousness and felt that plant medicine would be a powerful tool to help me do that.

At the beginning of the ceremony, each person goes to the front of the room. They share what their intention is, drink the brew, and sit back down. It takes about 30 minutes to one hour for the plant medicine to kick in. It lasts anywhere from 5-6 hours.

On the second day, which was my first ceremony, I started with a smaller dose of the medicine. Indigenous Peruvian Shabibo healers prepared the Ayahuasca brew and facilitated the ceremony. It was a great introduction to Ayahuasca.

As part of the experience, everyone sits in a circular room. Each of us had a mattress, pillow, blanket, and bucket for purging. They guide you through a yoga session and a meditation before dropping into the experience.

I had a very pleasant experience with my first ceremony.

I felt a lot of gratitude and love. While it was blissful, I didn't feel that a lot of healing was done. If that had been my only experience with Ayahuasca, I would have been disappointed.

With the second ceremony, I did a full dose. I had an incredibly powerful experience.  At the onset, I was in a blissful state of gratitude and joy. All of sudden, I started having visions. One, in particular, was a vision of a plant that was pulling weeds from my body.

The weeds were reflective of any residual trauma, pain, negative energy, or negative emotion that was still dormant in my body.

I remember fully surrendering to the plant and allowing it to heal me from the inside out. As the weeds were being pulled out, I started feeling very nauseous. Here's the interesting thing… it didn't feel uncomfortable. Rather, it felt amazing.

Almost as if the plant had caught something inside of me that it was wanting to release. When I eventually let it go and purged, I felt even more bliss. That night, I purged four times, yawned, and sweated a lot. It was a very transformational experience.

The entire time I felt that I was in full control. Surprisingly, I was still able to direct my mind. I started speaking to the medicine because I was curious what would show up if I did.

My Third Experience with Ayahuasca at Soltara Healing Center

This experience was a lot more intense than the other two experiences were. I went into it intending to have a similar experience to the one that I had the second night. I did the same dose as I did the night before. As it was kicking in, I felt gratitude and love.

I purged, let go, laid down, and was ready to bliss out and enjoy the journey. Unfortunately, I went from a beautiful experience to a very intense and challenging one. I thought that I was done. However, Ayusacha needed me to go deeper. There was more work to be done.

As I was lying down, I felt the need to purge more and more, but I didn't want to face it. The more I resisted, the more painful the process became.

I had to get back up and challenge myself to go through it. Upon reflection, I now realize that I wanted to do things on my terms. I only wanted to heal on my terms, but plant medicine had another agenda for me.

I ended up purging intensely 10 times that night, but a lot of the time no liquid was coming out. However, it didn't matter. The act of purging brought with it a powerful feeling of release.

When I was purging, I saw snakes coming out of me, like parasites. To this day, I'm not sure what it was but I know that I was releasing and freeing myself from emotional pain.

One of the most profound realizations that I had from the experience was that control is an illusion.

I've always been someone who has a clear plan. I have a crystal clear vision for my life and I know exactly how I want my future to unfold. While it's great to have a life plan, this experience taught me that I can't be attached to any plan.

Life happens when you're busy making plans. That can cause a lot of pain if your expectations aren't met.

There are one million things that could happen today or tomorrow that could change EVERYTHING in your life. You need to trust the process and surrender to whatever happens. That one realization has shifted my entire perspective on life.

The fourth day is all about integration.

I think this is missing in a lot of other Ayahuasca retreat agendas. It was so unbelievable to hear other people's experiences. The retreat members came from all walks of life. We all bonded with one another.

The collective intention was to support each other's healing process. Once you've finished the retreat, there is a diet that the Soltara Healing Center suggests you follow. Avoiding things like marijuana and alcohol is important, as is eating healthy foods.

After an Ayahuasca experience, you're on an incredible high for a few weeks. Since my experience, I've felt lighter, happier, and more at peace. I don't feel the same desires, needs, and ambitions as I once did.

My values have changed as well. I want to connect with more people. Overall, I feel like a more conscious version of myself.

This was my CRAZY Ayahuasca experience at the Soltara Healing Center in Costa Rica.

This plant medicine experience transformed my life forever. The Shipibo healers were incredible and the core staff was incredibly knowledgeable. I felt safe and supported from beginning to end. If you're interested in learning more about their retreat, check out their social media platforms:

This is my Biocybernaut review where I talk about how I biohacked 40 years of meditation in 7 days.

Tatiana and I recently took part in a 7-day brain neurofeedback training at the Biocybernaut Institute in Sedona, Arizona.

This was one of the most powerful self-development experiences I've ever had. I was given the unique opportunity of biohacking my brain waves.

Dr. James Hardt is the founder of the Biocybernaut Institute and one of the original inventors of EEG feedback technology.

Keep reading to discover the life-changing benefits that I received from this brain training!

How would your life change if you could biohack your brain and enhance your mental game? CLICK HERE to discover how the Biocybernaut Institute can help you do so!

This was my experience with 40 years of meditation in 7 days.

The Biocybernaut Institute is the gold standard in neurofeedback training. As many of you know who follow me, I have been heavily invested in self-development for the last 17  years. I will try anything that has the potential to enhance my life. If something benefits me, my mission is to share what I learn with you, in the hopes that it will improve your life in some way.

That is why I do what I do. I've invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into my self-development, in the form of training programs, seminars, coaches, consultants, masterminds, and live events. Not to mention that I have read hundreds of self-help books.

I can confidently say that my experience at the Biocybernaut Institute is the most transformative thing that I have ever invested in. That is saying a lot. I discovered the Institute a few years ago from friends who shared the life-changing benefits that they've received from going through the training.

Some of them have even done the training multiple times! It is that powerful. My mentor, Tony Robbins gives a great Biocybernaut review of his experience going through the training. I encourage you to watch if you're interested in attending it one day.

Benefits of Biocybernaut Training

Dr. James Hardt has conducted scientific studies that confirm that participants who go through his 7-day neurofeedback training experience the following benefits:

  • 50% increase in creativity
  • +11.7 point increase in IQ (stable 12 months out)
  • +15.8 increase in EQ (stable 12 months out)
  • A calmer mind and less anxiety
  • Heightened consciousness, greater self-awareness
  • An increase in peak performance and flow states

If you want to go deeper and learn more about the science behind this treatment and the benefits outlined above, I encourage you to check out the Biocybernaut Publications and the Biocybernaut Technical Papers.

The Five Brain Wave States

  • Delta – Restorative sleep, dreaming
  • Theta – Lucid dreams, limited consciousness
  • Alpha – Alert, but physically and mentally relaxed
  • Beta – Awake and alert
  • Gamma – Intense focus and concentration

Every thought and emotion that you have is experienced at a certain brain wave state. After studying Zen meditators from all over the world, Dr. James Hardt discovered that people who meditate for 20-40 years have higher levels of alpha brain waves.

He was able to recreate that same pattern of the alpha brain waves in his biofeedback training, thereby helping people biohack 40 years of meditation in 7 days.

Neurofeedback Training Explained

At the Biocybernaut Institute, you train for 10-14 hours a day over a 7-day period. They attach gold-plated electrodes to different parts of your brain so that they can read and see where your alpha is coming from and to what degree.

Most of our alpha comes from our occipital and frontal lobes. They put you in a sound-proof chamber where you spend the majority of your time. Inside the chamber, there are speakers all around you.

When your alpha goes up, they start playing various sounds or tones. Based on where the alpha is being increased inside your brain, you will hear different tones.

As your brain starts hearing these different brain waves from inside the chamber, your brain gets rewarded for it.  As a result, this triggers the production of more alpha in your brain. This is how neurofeedback works.

Most people experience these different brain waves but we don't get to measure them, nor do they get to receive feedback when these states go up and down.

Studies that have been conducted at the Biocybernaut Institute have found that a higher level of alpha reduces negative emotions; like anxiety, stress, anger, and worry.

At the Biocybernaut Institute, they integrate the 14-step forgiveness method into their training program.

This is the most beneficial part of the program and was life-changing for me. Through his research, Dr. James Hardt found that trauma suppresses our alpha levels. A traumatic experience can still affect you on a subconscious level, regardless of the amount of inner work that you've done to heal from it.

Therefore, the purpose of the forgiveness method is to help people release subconscious trauma. The only way to accomplish this is by being in a high state of alpha. When you're inside the chamber, their technology reads your EEG alpha activity to see whether or not your painful thoughts are suppressing or increasing your alpha.

If the machine finds that if your alpha is suppressed, you go through a forgiveness process of the people who wronged you to understand why they acted the way that they did.

From there, they ask you to take some time to reflect upon the gifts that came from the painful experience that you endured. As you go through this forgiveness process, you are raising your alpha brain waves and restoring balance to your brain's electrical patterns.

I hope that my Biocybernaut review has inspired you to biohack your brain!

Again, my experience at the Biocybernaut Institute was life-changing. It has allowed me to access higher levels of consciousness, among many other amazing benefits.

What is unique about this training is you're doing something that is having a permanent effect on you in real-time. Even better, anyone who has done the training says that the benefits continue to increase 6-9 months afterward.

How amazing is it that someone like Dr. James Hardt has created technology that allows us to biohack our brainwave patterns and inner peace?

Do yourself a favor and add this experience to your bucket list!  When you change your brain waves, you change your life.

Decisions shape your destiny.

The extent to which you are able to make decisions that fulfill your dreams depends on the state of your mind. Research in cognitive psychology has shown that a person’s thoughts will influence the quality of their mood as well as their life experiences and actions.

The way that you feel determines the types of decisions that you make. Think about it… if you’re angry or overwhelmed, do you think that you're going to be in a position to make sound decisions? Probably not. However, if you're feeling grounded, clear, and confident, you will be more likely to make proactive decisions.

Keep in mind that when you make a new decision you don't always see the impact right away. It may take weeks, months, or even years until you realize how that one decision drastically altered the direction of your life. Take a moment and think about a good decision that you made 5-10 years ago that led to you being where you are today.

If you're not happy with the decisions that you've made in the past that are impacting your life now, I've got great news! You have the power to make new decisions that can change your life forever. At any moment, you can walk away from something that is no longer serving you and choose a different path.

I want to share with you the biggest decisions that changed my life forever. In sharing these life decisions, I hope that you will feel empowered to make similar decisions if you have been putting off doing so.

Committing to self-development

I discovered self-development when I was 17 years old. Before that time, I struggled with depression and anxiety. I experienced a lot of challenges as a result. If I hadn't discovered self-development, I don't know where I would be today.

Luckily, I found mentors and teachers who inspired me and gave me hope that anything was possible. Some of these people included Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, and Wayne Dyer. I learned from them that I could be, do, and have anything that I set my mind to. I started modeling their success habits. Today, I've been able to create a 7-figure online business.

It's not only my finances that have drastically improved because of my commitment to self-development. So too have my relationships, my mind, my emotions, and my spirituality. It wasn't easy, but I'm so grateful that I made the decision to level up my life.

Recommitting my life to Jesus Christ

I grew up as a Greek Orthodox Christian. My family wasn't super religious. We went to church twice per year. It wasn't until my self-development journey began that I started to further develop my spirituality. I studied Islam, Buddhism, and Daoism to name a few.

After studying different spiritual teachings, I noticed that there were limits to the mind. I came to realize that there were aspects of my life that could only be solved with a higher power. At that moment, I experienced a massive shift in my life. A lot of people try to fill a void within themselves through money, success, and significance, at the expense of their happiness.

It's not until you surrender and call in a higher power that you feel connected to something greater than yourself. Recommitting my life to Jesus Christ has changed my life. It's made me a better person overall. I am more loving, patient, compassionate, and forgiving. It's also added a new level of richness and meaning to my life. No matter what I go through, I know that there's a purpose to everything. Everything good that has happened in my life is because of God.

Learning how to meet and attract women

The first book that I read on self-development was called, “Double your Dating” by David D'Angelo. This book changed my life. At this stage of my life, my biggest pain point was that I didn't have friends or a girlfriend. Building my self-confidence was the only thing that I cared about.

Socially, I was very behind because I was a shy video game addict. I didn't socialize with people because it made me very anxious. I used gaming as a way to escape. As a result, I got bullied which caused me a lot of pain. When I committed to learning how to improve my confidence and social skills, everything changed.

When I was 18 years old I met a group of men who I found on an online community message board. They taught me how to interact with women. I committed to going out four times per week and forced myself to have conversations with people in public places.

I'm not going to lie… I was terrified. But I acted in spite of my fear. I ended up overcoming my fear of approaching women and committed to improving my communication and social skills. In turn, I became a more attractive version of myself. Women started to become naturally more attracted to me. Today, I'm engaged to my soulmate. I would never have found her if I did not commit to becoming a better man and human being.

Starting an online business

At a young age, I knew that I didn't want to work for someone else. I hated school. I always wanted to do my own thing and be independent.  When I was 21 years old, I started a coaching business. It was called Lifestyle Transformations. The decision to become an entrepreneur was life-changing.

I had zero experience, but I learned what I needed to know in order to succeed. Eventually, I got into Internet marketing. This decision gave me financial freedom and the lifestyle that I now have. Today, I never have to worry about money. Making more money has allowed me to progress rapidly in many other areas of my life.

I have more time to devote to things that matter to me, like my health, my relationship, and my spirituality because I have more resources available to me. That being said, even if I lost all of the money that I have, I am confident that I could make it all back.

The skills and qualities that I have cultivated over the years will never go away. You can lose money, but you can never lose who you are. If you have the desire to build an online business, don't wait. Take action and start creating your dream life.

Volunteering

Giving to others has taught me how to be a selfless and more giving person. When I was in my early 20s, I realized that I had a scarcity mentality. I was always afraid of losing money. In turn, I was limiting myself from making more money. I realized that it's not how much money you give to others that matters.

Rather, its the habit of giving money that counts. When I was young, I would give small amounts of money to homeless people every day. I was training my mind to be a giver. In my mid-20s I started going on volunteer trips to third world countries in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Kenya, and Ethiopia where I helped build schools and houses for families in need.

I've also helped fund the construction of 10+ schools in countries like India and Ecuador. To this day, giving a home to someone in need has been one of the most powerful and emotional experiences of my life. Volunteering and philanthropy have brought so much more meaning and joy to my life. As Tony Robbins says, “The secret to living is giving.”

Quitting pornography and masturbation

When I was first exposed to pornography I didn't know what the negative effects would be. I used it as a way to relieve stress and anxiety. However, once it became an addiction, I knew that I had to quit. I started experiencing performance issues, like erectile dysfunction, or I would jump from one partner to the next because I would lose attraction for women quickly.

Why? I was being aroused by a variety of women on a screen that did not exist in reality. In turn, I wasn't able to connect with or be intimate with women in real life. On top of that, masturbation was taking away my energy, drive, and motivation. I felt lazy. It was hard to feel happy.

While enjoying pornography, your dopamine levels rise to around 200% of what is normal. While this feels good in the short-term, these abnormal levels of dopamine can mess with your mood. Once I detoxed my brain from pornography, everything in my life changed.

Committing to a morning ritual

I've been practicing a morning ritual for over 16 years now. Rituals have changed my life because they've allowed me to build healthy habits. What you do every day is who you end up becoming. When you make it a priority to take time every day to nourish your mind, body, and spirit, you get so much more out of your days and your life.

Engaging in rituals like praying, journaling, reading, meditating, and reciting affirmations, has shaped me into the person I am today. My ritual is non-negotiable. I encourage you to choose rituals that align with your interests and values. When you commit to making your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual self a priority, I promise that you will experience more fulfillment, confidence, and energy in your life.

Investing

I got into investing when I was 18 years old. I read the book, The Wealthy Barber and it changed my life. It taught me about compounding and dollar-cost advertising. The sooner that you invest, the sooner that you benefit from compounding. My first investment was $500 in a Bank of Montreal mutual fund. I started paying myself first.

Ten percent of whatever I made I put aside and invested it. At 21 years old, the next investment that I made was $5,000. Over the years, I continued paying myself first and reinvesting the money that I made. As I started making more money, I got into individual stock picking and index funds. Because of the investment portfolio that I've been able to create, I could retire now and never have to work another day in my life based on the dividends that I receive from my investments.

Starting my YouTube channel

I started Project Life Mastery when I was 25 years old. However, years before that I was a public speaker and a life coach. I've received so much value from helping others. Being a Youtuber has forced me to access a better version of myself.

I've had to tap into the best version of Stefan, someone who is charismatic, articulate, and of service to others' lives. It's allowed me to further my self-development journey and create an impact on a global scale. To date, my YouTube channel has gotten over 50 million views.

I have also reached millions of people through my podcast, blog, and social media. It's mindblowing to know that so many people have consumed my content. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for my audience, who have watched my videos.

I've been able to build my coaching business through YouTube, as well as sell my online courses. It's been an incredible journey and I can't wait to see how my channel continues to evolve and grow.

These are the decisions that changed my life forever.

If you are someone who struggles to make decisions, I hope my story has inspired you to become a better decision-maker. It's the decisions that you make today that will determine what your future looks like. Every day brings with it a myriad of choices that need to be made.

What decision will you make today?

Gratitude can transform your life.

Gratitude is a state of mind that arises when you focus on and give thanks for the good. In effect, gratitude equates with abundance. I have found gratitude to be one of the most spiritual emotions. If practiced regularly, gratitude can transform difficult times into opportunities for growth and expansion.

Dr. Joe Dispenza explained gratitude best when he said, “… Instead of going on autopilot, a person experiencing gratitude will pause in the present moment, really feel the expansiveness of the emotion and follow it with a kind word or thought.”

We live in a world that praises achievement, so much so that we are conditioned to believe that, the more we have, the more successful we will be. As a result, people become addicted to attracting more things into their lives without stopping to appreciate what they already have.

Don't get me wrong… being an ambitious person is great. However, if you don't stop and smell the roses, what is the point of achieving more? In my experience, taking time to appreciate the meaningful things in life trumps any materialistic possession. When it comes to gratitude, it's easy to feel happy and joyful when life is going well. However, it's a lot harder to pull upon gratitude when everything sucks.

Life isn't always fair.

The Coronavirus pandemic proves this point. It has changed the world as we know it. The economy has taken a massive hit. People have lost their jobs and are fearful for their futures. Even worse, many are mourning the deaths of loved ones who have lost their lives to the virus. Uncertainty has become the new norm.

Even in the toughest of times, like the one we are currently facing, I believe that it's possible to find gratitude. Gratitude is a state of mind that focuses on growth and possibility. It has the power to bring hope to the darkest of days.

A powerful example of this is what you're seeing in cities around the world right now. At 7 pm every night, people open their windows or go on their balconies and cheer as a way of giving thanks to the nurses and doctors who are fighting the Coronavirus. It may not feel like it, but these simple acts of gratitude bring comfort and healing to everyone involved.

Gratitude is one of the most important rituals that I practice. In my experience, if you consistently practice gratitude every day, you naturally become a happier and more positive person. Anything that you want to achieve in life requires daily discipline and practice.

By choosing to focus on what is good in your life, you will grow stronger in the face of adversity.

However, before you practice gratitude it's important to reflect upon how you act and speak daily. Do you use language consistent with gratitude? Or do you find yourself consistently harping about the injustices we’re facing and complaining about the hardships in your life?

If your daily thoughts and actions are disempowering, adopting an attitude of gratitude will be near impossible. Only once you know your default way of being, will you feel empowered to change your life. If you don't already have one, I encourage you to create a morning ritual that is focused on gratitude and positivity.

Look for the good and give thanks for everything in your life. I like to do a 2-minute gratitude meditation every day. All it requires that you do is stop, close your eyes, put your hands over your heart and focus on your breath. You can do this at any point during the day. Tune in and feel the love and strength of your heart.

Take a deep breath in and out and ask yourself, “In this moment, what is something that I am grateful for?” Trust whatever comes up. This simple practice allows you to connect to your heart intelligence, which is your seat of intuition and all-knowing. Whereas your mind will try to analyze everything, your heart will guide you towards the truth. In turn, you will experience more joy, love, and fulfillment. Where there is love there cannot be fear.

This is how to become grateful when everything sucks.

Albert Einstein once said, “There are two ways to live your life: as though nothing is a miracle, or as though everything is a miracle.” The choice is yours. What are you grateful for? Make it a priority to practice gratitude every day. It has the power to change your life.

What are you grateful for?

If you're struggling to come up with something, it's highly likely that you need a gratitude journal. However, there's a deeper reason for why gratitude isn't at the forefront of many people's minds. By nature, our brains are wired for negative thinking. Research shows that negative events have a greater impact on our brains than positive ones do, otherwise referred to by psychologists as “the negativity bias.”

It's a lot easier to focus on what we don't have than what we do have. Unfortunately, this default mode of thinking causes a lot of pain and suffering. Instead of dwelling upon what is missing in your life, what would happen if you took a few minutes every day to document what you're thankful for?

By consciously creating a morning ritual that allows you to look for the good, you rewire your brain so that it starts working for you instead of against you. This is why I'm a big believer in the power of a gratitude journal. Journaling about what you're grateful for is a proactive way of conditioning your mind to focus on the good.

Gratitude is an integral part of my daily morning ritual.

Every day I write in The 5 Minute Journal. This journal is designed in such a way so that you to start and end each day with an attitude of gratitude. As part of this exercise, one of the questions that I ask myself is, “What am I grateful for?” When I'm reflecting upon what I'm grateful for, I take the time to feel a deep sense of appreciation for each of the things that I write down.

I would like to share with you 10 things that I'm grateful for today.

1. God's unconditional love for me.

2. To share my life with Tatiana, my soulmate.

3. My body's immune system and relentless effort towards health and balance.

4. The mentors and role models that inspire and generously share their gifts with me.

5. To be able to live in a beautiful home in Panama.

6. The amazing friends that I get to experience fun things with.

7. My ability to travel the world.

8. The innovative geniuses of this world that create amazing technology that I get to benefit from, such as the Internet, my phone, and YouTube.

9. Access to clean water.

10. The chair that I'm sitting in right now.

I hope that I have inspired you to make a list of what you are grateful for. I encourage you to focus on the small things that we so often take for granted. Also, find different things to be grateful for each day.

If you have the desire to implement more empowering habits into your life, repetition is key. Adopting an attitude of gratitude is a great place to start. A grateful heart fosters a mindset of abundance which allows you to attract more of what you want into your life.

Are you ready to start a gratitude journal?

Make a conscious effect to appreciate and give thanks for each moment of your life. When you focus on the positive, you attract more joy, happiness, and love into your life. Albert Einstein said it best – “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

Make gratitude a daily practice. If you do, I promise that it will transform every area of your life.
